Poets Bill Shute and Sandra Burgess from Texas performed with Parashi (Mike Griffin), and others, Mon. May 23 at the Upstate Artist Guild on Lark St. in Albany. The Albany Sonic Arts Collective put together the show that also featured a solo set from Parashi. Also performing was Century Plants (Eric Hardiman, Ray Hare) with Phil Donnelly on drums, and Cruudeuces (Nathaniel Brennan, Mike Barrett, from North Adams, MA) closed the night. Video projections by Jason Cosco accompanied the performances. Shute appears in Hudson this Saturday, May 28 at the Spotty Dog Books & Ale.

About 300 people from New York and Pennsylvania gathered in Albany Monday, May 2 to hear 22 speakers in front of the State Capitol talk about their wish to ban hydraulic fracturing natural gas drilling in New York. Speakers included State Senators Tony Avella and Liz Kruger, and Assemblyman William Colton, sponsors of NY bill 4220 that seeks to ban the practice completely in the state. Other speakers included farmers, activits, high school students, biologist Dr. Sandra Steingraber, “Gasland” film director Josh Fox, and others.
